Where to go with children in Prague when the weather does not allow you to stay out for too long anymore? The National Museum of Agriculture at Letná offers a perfect playing indoor place. You can spend a whole day there, playing and moving without the children noticing they are actually learning a lot of interesting information.
Trips to the forest, a lake, and history
A trip to the National Museum of Agriculture is worth several trips – to the forest, to a lake, to gastro experiences, or to a playground. On one of the floors, children can fish, try on a real water bailiff outfit, weigh themselves, and compare the result with the weight of fish. At the exposition called Tractor on the Move, located on the first underground floor, they can play on push bikes, sit in the tractor cabin, or try an excavator.
There is much more under the roof – four floors of different playgrounds and interactive elements divided into sections: Agriculture, Gamekeeping, Discovery Lab, Water in the Landscape, Fishing, Lab of Silence, and more. For example, in Gastronomy, you will find out not only how people used to cook and eat, but you will also find a gingerbread house, “do some shopping”, weigh goods and ring them up at the checkout counter, play quiz games on an interactive screen, try to guess ingredients by touch or smell, or make models.
Take the elevator to the rooftop
If you visit the National Museum of Agriculture, do not miss the beautiful views from its roof! You can enter all the museum floors and see all exhibitions with a single ticket. However, if the weather is nice or at dusk, do visit also the outdoor space at the rooftop. You will see more than the surroundings, and the lively traffic near the tunnel directly below you will entertain especially little boys (though adults will like it, too).
It is a pity that there are no benches, so you will probably not stay there for too long. Every Thursday till the end of October, you can visit the exhibition Views of Life – Roof Garden from 5:30 to 9:30 PM.
How to get there
The museum building is situated at the end of Letná in Prague 7. The best way to get there is from the Letenské náměstí tram stop via Ovenecká or Nad Štolou Street. The main entrance to the museum is on the park side, so if you go from the tram stop, you have to walk past the museum via Muzejní Street. If you go by car, you can park in the spot between the two museums and Letná.
The National Museum of Agriculture is open all year round from 9AM to 5PM. The full admission is CZK 150, children up to 18 years of age and senior citizens have free admission. The museum also offers guided tours and lecturing programmes.
